In situ water infiltration: Influence of cover crops after growth termination

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cover crops (CCs) are known to influence water infiltration just prior termination, but their effects on over time less known. This study investigated the of CCs in situ CC termination (during April) and again 2 mo after June). The multi-species mixture used included hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth.), crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.), winter wheat (Triticum aestivum peas (Lathyrus hirsutus oats (Avena sativa triticale (Triticale hexaploide Lart.), barley (Hordeum vulgare flax (Linum usitatissimum L.). Infiltration rates were measured using double-ring infiltrometers during April June. physically based Parlange Green-Ampt models fitted data. Cumulative was 52% higher 68% June under compared with no cover crop (NC) management. During April, model–estimated saturated hydraulic conductivity parameter (Kdr) 245% NC same sample period, Green-Ampt–estimated Kdr 383% sorptivity lower antecedent content management both measurement periods suggest that can significantly improve into soil, this effect last for up termination.

Water requirement of crops in Khuzestan province

One of the effective steps in use of water resources is accurate estimation of plants water requirement. Lack of accurate estimation of this amount leads to water loss and failure to achieve optimum yield, reduced potential of production, soil resources degradation by too much irrigation or lack of enough leaching and salinization of soils by irrigation less than necessary level, which would ul...

Effects of cover crops on surface water quality

The current emphasis on sustainable agricultural systems has led to a renewed interest in the use of cover crops to reduce soil erosion losses and retain soluble nutrients during the dormant season. Cover crop choices include a broad range of plant material, such as ryegrass (Secufe cereale L.), winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), forage grasses, and legumes. Historically, cover crops were use...

New roller crimper concepts for mechanical termination of cover crops in conservation agriculture

Rollers crimpers have been used in conservation agriculture to terminate cover crops; however, excessive vibration generated by the original straight-bar roller design has delayed adoption of this technology in the United States. To avoid excessive vibration, producers generally reduce operating speeds that increase the time needed to perform the field operation. The objectives of this research...
